Asylum seekers working at once: where do Germany’s seven parties stand?

The statement in the quiz

Asylum seekers should be allowed to work legally as soon as they have applied.

Background

At present, asylum seekers may not work during their first three months. Those living in an initial reception centre must wait six months, and applicants from countries classed as safe countries of origin are generally not allowed to work.

Positions are coded on five steps: for, leaning for, neutral or mixed, leaning against, against. A party whose manifesto says nothing on the statement is marked “not in manifesto”, and the quiz leaves the statement out of that party’s score. The coding method and its checks are on the method page.
